It's clearly a tit-for-tat affair now as Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, urges members and supporters of the opposition party to take up arms and face-off with the ruling party in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
Speaking on UTV moments after the NDC's press conference to officially announce their boycott of the ongoing bye-election in the constituency, Sammy Gyamfi decried attacks on their supporters by some faceless security personnel he believes to be members of a vigilante group with strong leanings towards the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
UTV Reporter, Prince Ahenkan, giving a field report earlier in the day, narrated that some assailants stormed the Bawaleshie Presby polling station in a bid to prevent the electorates from voting because they suspected foul play.
The Police, including personnel from the defunct SWAT team confronted them, leading to a massive misunderstanding which later resulted in the shooting incident that left about six people (said to be members of the opposition party) injured.
At a press conference organised by the NDC at about midday, an incensed Sammy Gyamfi, summoned party members to active hostilities against the NPP at the various electoral areas within the constituency.
“People should know that under the constitution of Ghana, the law gives everybody the right to defend themselves. Our members, who have been attacked and injured, as we speak now, some have been incarcerated in cells. As we speak now, they’re still chasing people into the bush . . . All those people should defend themselves. If you have a gun, defend yourselves. Defend yourself if you have a machete. Defend yourself with anything you carry on you. If you have a bow and arrow, defend yourself,” he called to arms.
